Making my oatmeal this morning, I double checked with myself-
Had I taken any herbs or supplements in the last hour or so?
Any guess why that'd be an Oops! if I had?
High fiber foods like oatmeal, and mine this morning with added psyllium to boot, may reduce absorption of herbs, supplements, and in some cases even prescription meds!
So how long should we wait?
Conservative estimates say we should wait 2-3 hours after we consume oatmeal, chia psyllium, Metamucil, and similar goey fibers before taking our herbs/supplements/prescriptions.
And before?
Let's say we want to take a multivitamin. I tell people they need to take it at least 1 hour before these gooey fiber foods. Remember also that one needs to to take a multivitamin with food, butthat's a whole other post!
Bottom line?
To get the most out your health products, make sure fiber isn't binding them up before the body has a chance to use them!
