Marshmallow root makes an excellent substitute for slippery elm bark. Slippery elm bark is an herb that is overharvested and its population in danger. Marshmallow on the other hand is easy to grow and plentiful!
Marshmallow root is commonly used in cases of
heartburn
acid reflux
ulcers
gut inflammation and healing
providing deep hydration for tissues
bladder and urethra irritation and infection
internal cystitis

Note: It is best not to take mucilaginous herbs like marshmallow root (or large amounts of chia, psyllium, or foods like a bowl of oatmeal) within two hours of prescription medications, supplements or medicinal herbs. The reason is because these herbs/foods can impact absorbtion of medications and herbs.
How to prepare herb:
Traditional method: 1 tbsp per 2.5 c of lukewarm or cold water
Leave this tea to sit for a minimum of four hours to overnight on the counter if the weather is cool or in the refrigerator. The resulting liquid will be mucilaginous.
Some people prepare marshamallow root as a usual tea with hot water and it works well for them.
Suggested use, tincture:
12-20 drops up to 5 times per day in a small amount of water on an empty stomach or before a meal. Please shake before use.
